UDaB: UD Alternative Break Program

Mission: The University of Delaware Alternative Break (UDaB) program immerses student-led teams in direct service and experiential learning with community organizations to increase knowledge of social justice issues and ecourage life-long active citizenship.
History: UDaB began in 2010 and piloted its first program during the 2011 Spring Break. In that first year, 92 student participants and 12 student leaders traveled to five communities to pursue service projects related to homelessness, food scarcity, disaster relief, outdoor education for urban youth, and trail-building in a national forest.
During the spring of 2012, UDaB sent130 participants on alternative spring break trips. Students completed 3917 service hours that week and helped five communities in need. Highlights from these trips is commemorated in the UDaB 2012 video.
UDaB has been the recipient of support from the families and friends of participants, and through a generous grant from the UD Alumni Association. The program is grateful for all of the support from the university community and the contributions from donors.
The 2013 UD Spring Break is Saturday, March 23 - Sunday, March 30. Specific UDaB trip dates will be finalized this summer.
