Service-Learning Advisory Council

Background:
On April 20, 2003, Provost Dan Rich established the Academic Council on Service-Learning and charged it with developing recommendations for strengthening service-learning opportunities at the University of Delaware. In Spring, 2004, the Council presented its recommendations to Provost Rich; an immediate result was the creation of the Office of Service-Learning (OSL) in July 2004.

Provost Rich visited the Council in September 2004 to provide an update and to ask the Council members to continue their work with a new charge, now serving as an advisory council to the OSL. The purpose of the Service-Learning Council is to

  • help develop guidelines for service-learning on University of Delaware campus.
  • serve as a liaison to departments/units to heighten faculty awareness of the OSL’s role and services.
  • enhance dialogue about service learning within the University.
  • provide suggestions for program ideas and offer feedback to enhance the program.

As of now, the Service-Learning Council is being re-structured. The hope is to include UD faculty, students, and community partners all as a part of the new council, and they will continue to provide advisement to the Office of Service-Learning in the future. Further information will be forthcoming.
